The topic of bowel movements is often short-lived, if not avoided, in any conversation. Yet for researchers at Ohio State University, this is far from the case.
A recent study from the University has found that common bowel issues can be relieved and even eliminated just by boosting your feet on a stool.
Following the study that was published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, 71% of people experienced faster bowel movements when using a toilet stool, and a huge 90% of people reported less straining.
How Does a Toilet Stool Work?
Toilet stools are effective due to the positioning of your body when you’re using one. The most natural position for passing bowel movements is squatting. When you sit on a toilet, you create a bend in your rectum that makes it more difficult for your body to have complete bowel movements.
Approximately, 1 in 10 people in the UK are affected by some form of bowel problem. If you are able to have a successful time in the bathroom, you can prevent a variety of issues such as bloating, constipation and haemorrhoids. However, if these toilet troubles persist – it can lead to a multitude of serious health issues, including damage to the pelvic floor and pelvic organ prolapse.
