The creator of Pfilates is Dr Bruce Crawford, a gynaecologist and pelvic floor specialist who has used his expertise to develop a workout that is tailored to the pelvic floor muscles. Pilates is a form of neuromuscular conditioning that strengthens muscles, improves balance and aligns the spine and pelvis. Since posture, strong abs and general fitness are all linked to pelvic floor health it makes sense to tweak traditional Pilates so that it can focus on the pelvic floor.

After regular Pfilates exercise sessions your pelvic floor muscles will get stronger you’ll become more aware of them and be able to ‘feel’ each squeeze and relax. You will experience greater control over your bladder and notice increased sexual sensation, as well as dramatically reduce the chances of prolapse and incontience. As well as all this, your abs will tone up, you’ll have a flatter tummy and you’ll feel stronger and fitter throughout your entire body.

I go to a pilates class locally twice a week, I know we do a lot of core work, but I just wasn't getting the pelvic floor bit, and I was afraid that I wasn't doing it right because I have a mild prolapse. The teacher has been very supportive and helpful but I don't want to dominate the class with my persistent 'Is this right' Is this right'!? I have developed my own routine from this DVD and use the sections to exercise along to, only about 20 mins and I have noticed a real difference.. I was pleased as one of the other mums asked me tips at class the other day and I felt I could help her with the movements I learned here.
