What causes anaemia and how can you tell if you have it? Find out with FerritinCHECK

If you feel tired all the time you may have low iron levels, which lead to a condition to anaemia. The most common symptoms of anaemia are:

  • Tiredness and lack of energy
  • A pale complexion
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart palpitations (when you can feel your heart beating)
  • Headaches

If left untreated, anaemia can cause excessive tiredness, an increased risk of infection and heart or lung problems such as tachycardia and heart failure. If you are pregnant then anaemia can increase the risk of complications for your baby such as low birth weight and premature birth.

The fatigue caused by anaemia makes life much more difficult than it needs to be, so it’s important to start treating it. It can usually be overcome by taking iron supplements and increasing the level of iron in your diet by eating foods like brown rice, spinach and eggs.

Diagnose anaemia quickly at home with this ferritin test

FerritinCHECK is an easy way to find out if you have an iron deficiency, with no doctor’s appointment needed. Ferritin is the substance that iron forms in your body, so by checking how much of it is in your body you can diagnose anaemia. A quick and painless blood sample is combined with a solution that will react with any ferritin and create a coloured line when added to the test cassette. This gives you an easy to read way to determine if there’s enough iron in your blood.

How to use FerritinCHECK

  1. Twist the cap off the lancet, massage your fingertip and clean it with the alcohol pad
  2. Press the lancet against your finger and push the button
  3. Open the plastic container and remove the glass capillary tube
  4. Place the blood from your finger into the tube and insert it into the container
  5. Close the container and gently rotate it to mix your blood with the solution
  6. Insert the pipette into the mixture and add 3 drops to the test cassette
  7. After 10 minutes you will see your result – if no line appears it means you have anaemia

Home use Iron deficiency test - Yay! Review by Julie O
Product Rating
I started to have coeliac disease and I wanted to treat it as naturally as possible. I was amazed to find out that there was a link to iron deficiency. I took this test 2 months ago and have changed my diet and supplemented with iron food supplements. My symptoms are so much better and I am retesting to see the improvement.
I know everyone laughs about Dr Google, but if I hadn't read blogs and natural help about coeliac disease heavens know where I would be. Just a tweak to my diet and adding the right supplements have made such a huge difference, I am a fan of home testing, I didn't have time to wait for my Doctor and then a referral! Easy to use and was very accurate. Everything was sealed and hygienic. I had a feeling I was low in iron always tired. The test results were positive and I've just started iron tablets. I would definitely recommend this test if like myself it takes a long time to get a doctors appointment. (Posted on 23 December 2017)

Product Questions

Is this a single use product or can you check your iron levels on a regular basis? I am constantly borderline anaemic due to heavy periods and get fed up booking a Dr appointment to get a form, booking a nurse appointment to have the test and then booking another Dr appointment to discuss the results as it's the same conversation every time!
How is the result shown? As a number? So that high iron could be shown as well?
Does this give ferritin levels or does it just indicate a low level? As a haemochromatosis sufferer this product would be useful for level monitoring. If it gives levels how high does it go?
