Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome

Recent research in men and women over 50 has found that half of men feel dissatisfied with their sex lives, compared to just a third of women. This may come as a surprise, and even more shocking is that the explanation lies in Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome.

Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome (TDS) is a little-known but common medical problem that can have a serious impact on a man's lifestyle, sex life and happiness. It is not completely clear why testosterone production drops in some men rather than others and since the problem is not completely understood it often goes undiagnosed.

Symptoms of Testosterone Deficiency Sydrome:

  • Loss of sexual desire
  • Impotence
  • Uncharacteristic irritability or depression
  • Loss of concentration
  • Sleep disturbances and fatigue
  • Low self-esteem
  • Hot flushes and sweating

With a list like this it's clear to see how TDS can severely change a man's quality of life. It's also easy to understand why many men don't pluck up the courage to see their GP about their symptoms due to embarrassment or a desire to cover up their worries. What's more, testosterone deficiency is most commonly found in men with erectile dysfunction and diabetes. This means that a diagnosis of TDS could reveal an even more serious health problem which may be left undiagnosed and untreated if men don't visit their GP. If you think you have symptoms of TDS it is really important to talk to your doctor about it. With a simple blood test they will be able to diagnose you and advise you on how to resolve the problem. This is usually a combination of lifestyle or dietary changes and treatment which can come in the form of tablets, gels, injections or patches.
