Speeding Up Your Recovery So You Can Live Life to the Full

Surgical procedures and living with pain pre and post-surgery can take its toll on every aspect of your life. The abdominal area and the back are the pillars of your body, controlling every movement you make; issues in these areas mean you cannot live your life the way you want to and something as seemingly ordinary as a long car journey can leave you in pain for days or even weeks on end.

The engineers behind the SRC Recovery Shorts have created compression shorts to put and end to these issues and aid in the speedy recovery of women everywhere, whether they have experienced an injury or surgery in the abdomen, back or pelvis.

The SRC Surgiheal Recovery Shorts are endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association and have been thoughtfully designed to aid in the fast recovery from a range of ailments and surgical procedures including but not limited to:

  • Childbirth - either vaginally or via c-section
  • Lower and upper abdominal surgery
  • Lower back injuries
  • Hernia repair
  • Vaginal repair
  • Hysterectomy
  • Back or spinal surgery

How Do Compression Shorts Work to Speed Up Your Recovery?

Compression garments promote muscle stimulation, activating the muscles even when you are stationary and promoting healing whenever wearing the garment. The consistent pressure on tissues that have been operated on helps to reduce swelling by stopping fluid build-up; the fluid is then absorbed back in to the blood stream. Swelling can be painful, not to mention unsightly but with the help of the SRC compression shorts you can get back to enjoying your life and hobbies much quicker without the concern of post-operation swelling.

Post-Birth Recovery and Care for Diastasis Rectus Abdominus

53% of women suffer from Diastasis Rectus Abdominus Muscle (DRAM) following the birth of their child. This is a condition whereby the central gap between the stomach muscles doesn't close and settle back into its natural position after birth. 36% of women remain unusually wide for 5-7 weeks but there is no guarantee that those muscles will ever completely recover and return to normal. There are two things that can help to close this gap:

  • Specific abdominal exercises prescribed by your healthcare provider; and
  • Compression to the area

The top front panel on these shorts supports the upper and lower abdomen, stimulating your muscles to be constantly active and decreasing the distance between the muscle walls.

Post-Birth Recovery and Care for Lower Back Pain

In the first few months of parenthood, 50% of women suffer from lower back pain.

DRAM and the adverse effects of the naturally released hormones relaxin and progesterone, coupled with the physical demands of parenthood can make caring for your baby more difficult. Ways you can help alleviate lower back pain include:

  • Engaging in specific exercises recommended by your doctor or health visitor
  • Being aware of your posture
  • Wearing a compression garment; and
  • Implementing correct lifting techniques

The back panel has 2 layers to support the upper and lower back; reducing pain and improving mobility and stability.

Post-Birth Recovery and Care Following C-Section and Natural Birth

Around 1 in 4 women in the UK have a caesarean birth. During a c-section, the abdominal muscles are torn and of course, your skin is opened to bring your baby safely into the world. This is, of course, major surgery and your body needs all the help it can get for your recovery.

Following a vaginal birth, 85% of women sustain a perineal trauma and 60-70% have stitches. This can result in pain and difficulty with walking and getting in and out of bed.

Healing and mobility for both a vaginal and caesarean birth are accelerated with rest, ice and compression to these wounds. The lower front panel/gusset has a double layer providing constant, gentle compression to swollen and sutured areas.

High Quality Fabrics and Design for Fast and Effective Results

Created in Australia, The SRC recovery shorts are endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association and have been independently and scientifically tested and proven to be, not just the highest quality in terms of fabrics and materials used, but to deliver continuous medical-grade compression during wear. The fabric panels are cut in multiple planes that offer multi-directional stretch. The ingenious design of these panels is what makes the SRC Recovery Shorts so incredibly durable, keeping their compression ability for longer than many leading sports performance brands.

Encouraging Healthy Blood Flow for Fast Wound Healing

The science behind compression garments is simple yet so effective. Wearing compression garments post-surgery reduces the likelihood of your veins expanding, ensuring even blood flow and preventing blood flowing backwards causing congestion - which can lead to a life-threatening blood clot or DVT. Healthy blood flow is pivotal in the recovery of wounds, as the white cells contained in your blood create collagen – the protein that forms the foundation of new skin. The white cells need to continually flow to the damaged area for a full and fast recovery.

The quicker the recovery of a wound, the less chance of infection, and the sooner you recover, the sooner you get back to doing the things you love and living your life to the full.

Made with Comfort in Mind

The shorts are made from breathable and lightweight yet incredibly durable, strong materials, suitable for use whatever the climate. The design of the shorts means they act as a compression garment as well as support wear, ensuring healthy blood flow and reducing the risk of DVT post-surgery.

Wear after wear and wash after wash this durable garment holds its shape and functionality, meaning you can utilise the shorts long after you have recovered. Many women use these shorts following their recovery in the same way you would use control underwear, as they are great for holding you in and improving your posture. The SRC fabric was subjected to 100 wash cycles followed by a fabric extension test. After 50 washes, the results showed that the leading competitor compression fabric had not only shrunk significantly but was less resistant in the stretch. The SRC fabric had minimum shrinkage and retained its stretch resistance under higher force. The shrinkage of both fabrics stabilised after 100 wash cycles, but only the SRC fabric retained the same high level of compression at the conclusion of the testing.

SRC work closely with leading obstetricians and women’s health physiotherapists to create garments that are not only highly functional, but also discreet for wear under regular clothing. This allows you to still be ‘you’ and enjoy your life as you bounce back from the surgical procedure or injury that has been holding you back.
