Your intimate balance is important, it keeps everything ‘down there’ working correctly and protecting you from infections such as thrush and BV. When the pH of your vagina changes it means the healthy bacteria can no longer survive and the bad bacteria will take over leaving you feeling uncomfortable. The majority of soaps interfere with your vaginal pH and offset it, leaving you with many symptoms including vaginal dryness, an unpleasant smell and itching and burning sensations. To avoid this the use of special intimate washes is encouraged to help maintain the correct pH.
If you have gone through the menopause or had a hysterectomy then your oestrogen levels will change, this change in oestrogen causes your vaginal pH to change as well making your old intimate wash no good. Your pH will go from around 3.8 to 6.8 (quite a drastic shift).
