Pfilates: Pilates for your pelvic floor!
Many people will know that Pilates is the perfect workout to tone and strengthen your core abdominal muscles. It is known as a form of neuromuscular conditioning which means it tones and strengthens muscles, improves balance and control and aligns the spine and pelvis. For this reason it goes hand in hand with kegel exercises, and now the two have been combined for the ultimate pelvic floor exercise programme.
The pelvic floor is intrinsically linked to all the core abdominal muscles and supports the internal organs in both men and women, so when it is weak it can have serious complications such as bladder weakness, prolapse and loss of sexual satisfaction. Pfilates offers a gentle but effective workout that not only tones the core abdominal muscles but exercises and strengthens the pelvic floor too.
Designed by professional gynaecologist and pelvic floor expert Dr Bruce Crawford, Pfilates is a carefully devised programme which uses 10 key movements, each one being a series of repetitions followed by a hold phase and pulse phase at the peak of pelvic floor muscle engagement. These movements encourage strength, endurance and coordination.
This kit includes a DVD which features a section to teach you the 10 movements, and 3 individual workouts, beginning, intermediate and advance, so that you can build up the difficultly level as your muscles become stronger and you improve your control, balance and stamina.
Also included in this kit is an instructional guide to help you get the hang of the movements and a 20cm exercise balls for repetitions where resistance is key.
