Ticks are pesky little arachnids that need human or animal blood to survive. Their bite is normally painless, you won’t typically feel the bite or know you’ve been bitten say for a little redness around the bite area (unless you experience an allergic reaction to the tick’s saliva). If you find a tick on you, you should use tweezers to grab the tick as closely to its mouth as possible and slowly and steadily pull it straight up to remove it from your skin. What are the Symptoms of Lyme Disease?
Typically, within 4 – 6 weeks of being bitten you will develop a circular red skin rash around a tick bite. However, this rash can appear up to 3 months after being bitten and it will usually last for several weeks. Not everyone with Lyme disease gets the rash. Some people also have flu-like symptoms in the early stages, such as:
- A high temperature, or feeling hot and shivery
- Headaches
- Muscle and joint pain
- Tiredness and loss of energy
