During a bowel movement, our pelvic floor muscles relax while the muscles of the abdomen contract to push faeces out of our rectum, the lowest part of our large intestines. This process should be an automatic, coordinated effort between different muscles. However, the contractions don’t always coordinate well. This can result on our pelvic floor muscles contracting or tightening when they should be relaxing. This leads to a difficult bowel movement and hardening of the faeces - known as constipation.
When the bowel remains full, sometimes for many days, the weight of the hardened stool adds pressure on the pelvic floor muscles. It is estimated that an average person has a bowel movement approximately once a day passing about 1oz of stool for each 12 pounds of body weight. That means a person weighing 11 stone (72kg/160 pounds) produces an average of just under a 1 pound/450gm of poop each day.
Combine the physical discomfort of this stool bearing down directly on the pelvic floor muscles and the straining needed to pass a hardened stool and you have a recipe for pelvic floor weakness and possible prolapse.
It cannot be stressed highly enough how important it is to avoid constipation. Damage from constipation to a pelvic floor is grossly underestimated. Postmenopausal women can suddenly find they develop constipation due to changing hormone levels and this combined with a weak pelvic floor could trigger a prolapse, so being aware of the danger to the pelvic floor, and supplementing to help regular bowel movements will help take the strain and beat constipation.
The selection of vitamins and minerals we have selected for our Kegel8 12 Week Pelvic Floor Protection from Constipation Pack has ingredients clinically proven to help combat constipation and enable easier softer stools to pass without straining. Kegel8 supplements should be taken daily and will last you 12 weeks (3 months). We strongly urge you to complete the supplement course together with a 12 week Kegel Exercise programme to ensure you get the very best results.

Hydrolysed Collagen to Support the Pelvic Organs
Required to keep all the tissue in the body tight, this includes the tissues holding your pelvic organs in place.
The pelvic organs (bladder, urethra, vagina, uterus, colon and rectum) are attached to the pelvic walls by a system of connective tissue called the endopelvic fascia. A lack of collagen directly affects this tissue making it less supportive and elastic and the protein collagen reduces as we age.
Magnesium to Relieve Constipation
Relaxes muscles and neutralises stomach acid to help speed the passage of waste through the intestines, to help you go to the toilet easily.
Vitamin C to Prevent Constipation
"Vitamin C not only benefits the immune system it reduces the frequency of colds and as a positive side effect it tends to control constipation. Its freedom from toxicity relative to its efficacy is remarkable." (A. Hoffer, M.D., Ph.D.).
Vitamin C is water-soluble meaning it cannot be stored in the body, so it needs to be taken daily to be effective in preventing constipation and keeping bowel movements easy to pass, and strain-free.
Beta Carotene to Support the Pelvic Floor Muscles
Considered a safe source of vitamin A, and is known to help your body produce collagen, and it also helps to keep cartilage strong so it is essential for a strong and supportive pelvic floor especially the connective tissue - the endopelvic fascia.
