Say hello to FitAir Aurora, and goodbye to chemically-fragranced plug-ins!
Aurora is named after the charged particles that enter our atmosphere and cause the spectacle we know as the Northern Lights. Why? Because this small and discreet unit works by ionising oxygen particles, leaving behind air so fresh, you’d think you were in the Arctic! Featuring a micro-fan for rapid effect, Aurora works best in small rooms, porches and hallways – or anywhere you would normally plug in an air freshener.
Consuming less than 5W per hour, Aurora is environmentally friendly and features an adjustable rotary dial that keeps you in control of the cleaning! With its soft reassuring blue glow, it even works brilliantly as a night light for your baby’s nursery, whilst eliminating morning nappy smells and airborne germs that can make your baby sick.
Let’s clear the air about fresheners and plug-ins
Did you know that almost every odour you smell is caused by VOCs (volatile organic compounds)? Your sense of smell is the effect of inhaling these light volatile molecules which bind to the cilia (little hairs) within your nasal passage and trigger neurons to perceive a scent. VOCs are found in common household and workplace products; from cleaning agents and room fresheners to electronic appliances like copiers and printers, they are ever-present indoors and are even emitted from structural building components! Along with biological pollutants (like mould, bacteria and viruses) and gaseous irritants, VOCs are able to stay suspended in your air for very long periods of time. Because we inhale and exhale approximately 20,000 times a day this mixture of contaminants and pollutants gets breathed in along with the air!
Poor air quality is able to cause health problems like asthma, eye, nose and throat irritation, fatigue and headache; this is because nasty particles found in unventilated air are able to infiltrate your body when you spend a long time indoors. If you regularly experience symptoms like these during or after being inside a specific building, you may suffer from Sick Building Syndrome. This is an illness triggered by the environment in which you live, and can get worse the longer you stay in the same place.
Unfortunately, many people attempt to freshen stagnant and stuffy air by using scented aerosols, plug-ins and candles, but these only exacerbate symptoms of ill health. Despite their name, air fresheners do little or nothing to freshen your indoor air. They work in one of, or in a combination of, the following ways: 1) by killing your ability to smell by way of a nerve-deadening chemical 2) by coating your nasal passages with an undetectable oily film, or 3) by covering up one smell with another. In this way, chemical fragrances are a bit like a spoonful of sugar; they may help the smelly pollutants go down easier, but they are just as bad for you.
Did you know that the NRDC (Natural Resources Defence Council) recently tested 14 air fresheners and found that 12 contained phthalates (pronounced ‘THAL-ates’)? These are chemicals that can cause hormonal abnormalities, birth defects and reproductive problems among other ailments. In addition to phthalates, synthetic air fresheners and plug-ins usually contain allergens and other VOCs as well as cancer-causing chemicals such as benzene and formaldehyde. Scarily, even air fresheners marketed as ‘all-natural’ and ‘unscented’ were shown to contain these hazardous chemicals when tested. The NRDC also found that being exposed to air freshener chemicals as little as once a week can increase your odds of developing asthma symptoms by as much as 71%.
If you or someone you know is a heavy user of these products, consider this: not only are you putting yourself and others at risk, but you can do all the things they claim to do by dealing with the root cause of the problem as opposed to seeking a temporary solution.
Aurora targets and destroys pollutants at source
FitAir’s negative ionisation technology has been specifically designed to safely and effectively eliminate the dangerous things lurking in your air, without simply masking the problem.
Whilst filters are great at purifying the air which goes through them, they can’t clean the entire atmosphere in a room on their own. That’s why ion technology is increasingly being used to counteract this downfall, as it works on a molecular scale – targeting tiny airborne particles which can easily pass through filters.
In the FitAir Aurora, negative ions are released through a small ceramic cylinder at the front of the unit. A high voltage is applied inside Aurora which builds up an electric field and excites the air molecules passing over the surface. Ions are formed in the resulting plasma which then disperse around the room.
As the negative ions latch on to airborne contaminants, large particle clusters form in the air; the air is cleared as these clusters become heavy and fall to the ground. When you first start using Aurora you may notice an increase in dust gathering on indoor surfaces; this is a sign your unit is working. After regular usage you’ll find that dusting and other cleaning is actually reduced – as there are no other particles in the air left to settle!
FitAir’s technology combats the source of allergies and asthma, and neutralises odours and pollutants to transform your stale indoor space into a fresh and healthy environment! By attacking the particles at their core, your home and workplace can be free from smells, viruses, mould and other contaminants. Aurora is capable of eliminating 99.99% of bacteria after just half an hour’s use, so it’s perfect for keeping your house and family healthy!
Super Effective All Year Round
The summer months can really feel like hell if you suffer from allergies. They flare up when the pollen count is high but staying inside doesn’t help! When it gets a bit hotter your first thought is to crack open a window but if you suffer from hay fever you will have to decide if you prefer being hot and sweaty or having red, puffy eyes as pollen can be blown into the building through open windows. Air conditioning isn’t the solution either, because air conditioning systems recycle air from outside, allergens can still get in and irritate you as most air conditioning units don’t have a filter to trap them. At home, pollen is easily carried indoors by pets, shoes and clothing as well, so no escape there. Once blown inside there's a much higher concentration of these little allergens which then lead to hay fever, asthma, and rhinitis symptoms. A FitAir unit deals with the allergens themselves so that you don’t have to choose between feeling refreshingly cool and free from sniffles and sneezes.
When summer finally comes to an end you would think that would be the end of you air related problems but no, winter brings its own issues in terms of air quality and pollution. As the cold nights draw in we spend as much time inside as possible so you need to ensure the air is fit for you to breath. Winter brings with it cold and flu for a lot of people, the viruses that cause these illnesses become trapped in our homes making recovery from them more difficult, using a FitAir unit will take these out of the air to stop you feeling bunged up.
