EMS Treatment for Facial Palsy
This multi-use EMS and TENS device has been specially developed to engage and stimulate the muscles throughout the body, with programmes aimed at helping those with facial paralysis, also known as facial palsy. The term facial palsy generally refers to weakness of the facial muscles, mainly resulting from temporary or permanent damage to the facial nerve.
Depending on the severity of damage to the facial nerve, your facial paralysis should improve and recover unaided, however; this can be a long, drawn-out process whereby you are left feeling insecure and embarrassed by your condition. The use of EMS to stimulate the facial muscles helps to prevent contractures of affected muscles, thus lessening the physical deformity caused by facial nerve damage. In effect, the EMS machine takes on the role of the nerve, sending signals to the facial muscles to ensure they keep their tone and shape whilst your natural signaller (the nerve) recovers.
EMS Prevents Muscle Waste and Degeneration
The EM-2100 features a selection of programmes to help prevent muscle wastage due to a multitude of conditions, such as:
Arthritis – The inability to move the affected joint has a knock-on effect with the muscles surrounding that joint. If the muscles are not engaged in the way they used to be, they will start to weaken and potentially waste away. EMS stimulation ensures these muscles are activated without you needing to activate the painful joint, thus preventing degeneration of the muscles while you work on strengthening and recovery of the joint.
Brachial Plexus Injury – Damage to the Brachial Plexus network of nerves will prevent the use of the arm on the damaged side, leading to muscle degeneration and a weakening of the arm. It is vital that you stimulate these muscles with EMS. EMS emulates the function of the Brachial Plexus nerve network to keep the muscles strong even when the arm cannot be used.
Trophic Electrical Stimulation (TES) for Stroke Patients
For persons suffering the after-effects of a stroke, this device can send natural nerve signals to the muscles via a stimulator in order to maintain the nutrition of the muscle. This treatment helps to balance muscle tone, relieve pain and stiffness, and facilitate the natural healing process.
In addition to EMS treatment, the EM2100 also features a TENS output. TENS is used by physical therapists to help alleviate pain in the body whether due to injury, disability or illness. TENS works by delivering small electrical pulses through the skin, this stimulates the body to produce endorphins; the body’s natural pain reliever.
The EM2100 comes with a one-year guarantee against manufacturing defects. It is supplied in a sturdy, heavy-duty case with a handle for easy transportation. The case is fully padded with foam to protect the machine from damage should the case be dropped or mishandled.
