Dust mites can be found in the majority of our homes no matter how clean you think it is. They breed in your bedding, carpets and soft furnishings like sofas and curtains. You can’t see dust mites because they are only 0.3mm long and almost transparent but the mites are almost certainly there.  The most common species in the UK feeds on the skin scales that we shed each night, so you can’t really avoid feeding them.

Dust mite allergens are proteins and present in the faeces that can be seen trailing from the mite bodies. Female mites lay eggs which hatch into new mites which have six legs compared to the adults which have eight. If you wake in the morning with red, itchy eyes, suffer from eczema, wheezing or asthma then you could have a dust mite allergy. You are not alone though - dust mites are one of the most common allergy triggers of asthma and eczema.

How does the dust mite spray work?

Allergens from dust mites are made of proteins. It is the specific molecular shape of these proteins which determines whether they are allergens. As the spray dries, the concentration of Allercide on the fabric increases, changing the shape of the proteins so they can no longer bind to antibodies responsible for triggering allergic reactions. If the dust mite allergens are unable to bind to the antibodies, then the allergic reaction can’t take place.
