Description

Many women suffer from distressing pelvic floor problems. Staying active and exercising effectively can be most confronting for these women.

Inside Out offers expert advice and step-by-step guides on exercising and general care for your pelvic floor muscles. Australian pelvic floor experts Michelle Kenway (Women's Health Physical Therapist) has teamed with Dr Judith Goh (Urogynaecologist) to produce this innovative self-help exercise guide for women of all ages!

Inside Out is a professional guide for how to exercise with pelvic floor muscles dysfunction and provides expert guidelines for pelvic floor safe general exercise and improved pelvic floor fitness. After gynaecological surgery, childbirth and with menopause a woman’s pelvic floor becomes increasingly vulnerable to injury and dysfunction, especially with inappropriate exercise.

Inside Out is divided into two main sections-

The first section is based upon the most current clinical research into pelvic floor exercise. This section details Kegel exercises (pelvic floor exercises) and teaches women how to find, feel and train their pelvic floor muscles for improved pelvic floor strength and control. Women are guided through appropriate core exercise technique and taught the common pelvic floor and core exercise mistakes to avoid.

The second section of Inside Out teaches women how to identify unsafe exercises including inappropriate core, gym, aerobic and fitness class exercises. This section teaches women how to identify and perform safe strength, aerobic and fitness class exercises including Pilates and Yoga. A comprehensive whole body strength training routine appropriate for women with pelvic floor problems is accompanied by photographs and step-by-step guidelines. Real life stories from women who have experienced pelvic floor problems with exercise are interspersed throughout the text.

Fantastic book! So glad I read it after my prolapse surgery Review by Jill
Product Rating
I am so glad I found this book. I had seen Michelle Kenways's You Tube videos and then visited her site http://www.pelvicexercises.com.au where I saw her Inside Out book available here. I have now had repeat prolapse surgery and unfortunately I was never given the information in this book when my prolapse first developed, I think if I had read it earlier I would have avoided surgery. Now I know that many of the exercises I was doing to stay fit were actually causing my pelvic floor problems to become worse. The section on unsafe abdominal exercises for the pelvic floor has changed the way I now exercise. I've also learnt how to strengthen my pelvic floor too. This has been an invaluable read for me. Packed with information Review by Clibber

As a very fit 55 year old (eight classes a week including body combat, pump, step, balance, hitt and Pilates I was diagnosed with prolapse! Last week I underwent hysterectomy and prolapse repair (anterior wall) and realised I would have to completely rethink my exercise programme for when I am able to return to the gym! I had seen a few of Michelle Kenways videos on u tube and was impressed with her easy to follow instructions and great wealth of knowledge in this area and decided to purchase this book! Boy am I glad I did!!!! I didn't realise that many of the things I was doing (even in Pilates) were making my condition worse and in fact to prevent reoccurrence should never be practised again!!!! With the help of this book and the wealth of information contained within it I feel confident that I can work out a programme that will be 'pelvic friendly' when I return to the gym whilst giving me the full body without I love. I irealise I will not be able to do many of the things I used used to but this book has shown me that there are alternatives and by the time I'm able to exercise (other than walking) that I will be armed with all the information I need to protect my body from another prolapse. This is a fantastic book they EVERY woman should read (I wish I had read it years ago!) whether she has a problem with prolapse or not - it might just prevent it happening in the future!!!!
