Description

This bendable cutlery set is specially designed for people who need a bigger, more comfortable grip when eating - and the red colour helps with recognition for those with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and it's dishwasher safe too!

The set contains a spoon, teaspoon, fork and knife, all of which have soft cushion grip handles for comfortable use and to prevent slipping for those with weakness in their hands.

The knife’s blade has a clever curved design, which is ideal for those with weak muscles or limited arm movement because they can create a rocking motion to cut their food. The fork and spoons are all bendable to wither the left or the right, allowing the user to change the angle according to their range of movement. This is ideal for people who can only eat with one hand.

The flexible part of the spoon, teaspoon and fork can be bent to either the left or the right and it is a recommended that the maximum frequency of bending the utensils is 20 times - but when bent they are sturdy and hold this shape perfectly so this is not a problem!

Why is this cushion-grip bendable cutlery set in red?

The red handles are an important feature which helps people with dementia and  Alzheimer’s recognise mealtimes and feel comfortable eating. Clinical studies found that when red tableware was used 25% more food was consumed compared to using plain white and stainless steel tableware. As many of us know who care for loved ones with dementia and Alzheimer’s weight loss and loss of appetite is another particularly cruel side to the condition, and simple changes like this red cutlery set do make a difference,

What is the size of the cushion grip, bendable cutlery?

  • The handle grips on each item of cutlery are each 12cm long
  • The oval diameter of 3.5 cm x 2.1 cm at the widest (bottom) part, and circle diameter of 2.5 cm at the smallest (top) part.
  • In total each item is: Spoon 21 cm, Teaspoon 19 cm, Fork, 20.5 cm, and Knife 21 cm.

Great for left handers. Review by Dot
Product Rating
Very good, great idea. I can bend the fork to the right angle so Mum can manage to feed herself properly which is nice so she can still have meals with us and maintain a bit of independence.
She's a left hander so the ability to bend both ways is good. (Posted on 18 April 2016)

A good, well balanced product Review by P.W

Having previously purchased the 3 piece, black cutlery set, I was delighted to find this 4 piece, snazzy red handled version. The small spoon is excellent for ice cream etc and my elderly friend is delighted. I even managed a reduction in price by buying 2 sets together, one for a friends' disabled mother. Now have 2 happy ladies. Delivery speed was good and company was easy to deal with. (Posted on 26 September 2015)

Sad and poignant, but very effective. Review by Margo

We started with the set which is ideal for older hands, knife and fork quickly progressed onto spoon and fork and then just spoon for Mum as her dementia progressed. The chunky handles of the cutlery help no end and the bendable part means that the item can be angled around for individual use. This set I am pleased to say is dishwasher proof which was better than a previous one which went rusty!
When Mum went into a home last week, I had a wry smile when I saw her en suite toilet had a red seat! The colour stands out and helps minimise confusion.
Sad and poignant, but very effective. (Posted on 5 May 2015)

These are great for my Grandmother who has problems gripping ordinary thinner cutlery. We have 2 sets and she enjoys having her 'special' cutlery when she comes for Sunday lunch. (Posted on 1 May 2015)

I would recommend this cutlery set to anybody who has trouble gripping conventional cutlery for whatever reason. My Dad has been diagnosed with the earl=y stages of dementia but he also has arthritis and lack of sensation in his hands due to diabetes, the difference this item has made is amazing. I chose red because i know it is an dementia friendly colour and this set is a very good quality (Posted on 5 February 2015)
