Geisha Balls or Ben Wa balls are said to originate in Japan where they were called rin no tama - 'tinkling bells' and were made either of metal or ivory.
Today these spherical pelvic exercisers are known by many names including Rhythm Balls, Love Balls, Duotone Balls, Duo Balls or Geisha Balls, Ben Wa Balls and Smartballs, - they all work on the same principle. An outer sphere encases each metal ball bearing; the outer sphere material varies from jelly feel, silicone, latex or hard plastic. The spheres are joined together with a nylon cord, with an additional cord, which can be used to add movement, and for easy removal. Since the heavy ball bearings roll around inside the casing when you move, the pelvic floor muscles have to tense to hold the Geisha Balls in place; this exercises the pelvic floor and adds tone to the muscle.
Some women like to position the or Geisha Balls, at the entrance to the vagina - almost half in - half out to get maximum muscle control and stimulation to the orgasmic platform (first two inches of the vagina), and get maximum control of their pelvic floor muscles. Geisha Balls are also good for pelvic toning exercises, pull them out a little way, then practice with muscle contractions to "suck them back inside the vagina" - easier said than done, but when you have mastered pelvic control like this you and your partner will both be feeling the benefits.
Some women use a type of Geisha Ball called Ben Wa Balls to simply increase the strength of the pelvic floor muscles, much as the Taoist practice The Deer Exercise has been used for centuries, and the Kegel exercises are used today. We don't sell the actual Ben Wa Balls because we offer other vaginal weights such as the Vielle Pelvic Floor Toning System and Aquaflex Conesand these Geisha Balls. These are more effective than simple Ben Wa Balls, which often drop out of the vagina.
Smartballs are more user friendly; have an easy to use cord, are crafted in body friendly silicone and help to train weakened pelvic floor muscles. If you are a beginner looking to improve the tone of your pelvic floor muscles, we'd recommend smartballs, for women who are aware of a weaken pelvic floor, we'd recommend they consider the more intense stim units suck as the Kegel8 or the Athena Fem
